THE
COLLEGE
:
The
College of Veterinary Science and Animal Husbandry was established in the
year 1955 at Cuttack under the administrative control of the Department of
Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services, Orissa, with the intake capacity
of 48 students under traditional system of teaching and examination and
was affiliated to the Utkal University. The College was later shifted to
its present campus at Bhubaneswar during 1959. Subsequently the College
was transferred to the newly established Orissa University of Agriculture
and Technology in the year 1962. Trimester pattern of education was
introduced in 1966, which continued up to 1974 when it was switched over
to the presently continuing semester system of education. When the College
started Under Graduate programme was of 4 years degree programme, which was subsequently enhanced
to 4 & ½ years and now it is 5 years including 6 months internee
programme. The Veterinary Council of India (VCI) course was introduced
from the academic session 1995-96. The first Post-Graduate programme under
traditional system was started from 1966-67 in the subject of Pathology
followed by Medicine and Surgery in 1968-69. Subsequently the
Post-Graduate programme leading to M.V.Sc. degree started in the
discipline of Animal Breeding and Genetics, Animal Nutrition, Animal
Production, Gynecology, Bacteriology, Parasitology, Anatomy, Physiology,
Biochemistry, Pharmacology and Poultry Science. Ph.D. programme by course
credit system was introduced in the year 1983 in the subject of Pathology,
Medicine and Surgery.
