INSTITUTIONAL PROFILE

BACK GROUND OF THE COLLEGE:
The College of Agricultural Engineering and Technology
was established in the year 1966 as one of the constituent colleges of the
University with intake capacity 40 to cater the needs of the teaching,
research and extension of Orissa state in the field of Agricultural
Engineering. The college continued with the teaching to under graduate
students through prescribed courses under a five-year degree courses
consisting of 15 trimesters. Subsequently four year degree programmes
consisting of 8 semesters was introduced in the year 1974. The postgraduate
programme leading to M.Tech. Degree was introduced in Farm Machinery and
Power & Soil and Water Conservation Engineering in the academic year
1981-1982 and in Post Harvest Process and Food Engineering in the year
2002-2003.
FACILITIES:
The college maintains well-equipped laboratories with
latest instruments and sophisticated equipment for basic and applied
research. It has a centralized computer centre with Internet facility.
In the Department of Soil and
Water Conservation Engineering, there are Hydraulic Laboratory and Soil
Conservation Laboratory. It has modern equipment like moisture meter, stage
level recorder, current meter, drip and sprinkler systems, pumps, models and
prototypes of spillways, models to study ground water flow etc.
The Department of Farm
Machinery and Power has six laboratories namely Farm Power Lab, Farm
Machinery Lab, Ergonomics Lab, Power Tiller Lab, Farm Implement Design Unit
Lab and Implement Museum. The Ergonomics lab has sophisticated equipment
like Mogan oxylog-II (Oxygen Consumption measuring equipment), bicycle
ergometer, tread mill, integrated Coimbatore anthropometer grip dynamometer
besides having the E.C.G. and blood pressure measuring units.
The Department of Agricultural
Processing and Food Engineering has four laboratories namely, the Grain
Processing lab, Food Analysis lab, Food Processing Lab and Food Technology
Lab with modern instruments. The facilities include different types of
moisture meters, drying oven, micro wave oven, seed cleaner, rubber roll
dehusker, centrifugal sheller, rice polishing machines, mini modern rice
mill, storage bins, tray dryers, jacket and kettle evaporator, BOD incubator
etc.
The equipments in the Department
of Agriculture Structure, Civil and Environmental Engineering include the
apparatus for direct and triaxial shear test, consolidation test, standard
proctor test, Abbots compaction test, constant and falling head permeability
test etc. Besides, the laboratories are equipped with case grade apparatus,
hydrometer, universal testing machine, tensile and compressive strength
testing machine, all types of survey equipment such as dumpy level, plane
table, theodolite etc.
The Mechanical and Electrical
Engineering department has a Central Workshop, which consists of shop floors
of Smithy, Carpentry, Machine tools, Fitting and Welding. The Electrical
Engineering laboratory is equipped with motors up to 15 hp, different types
of starters and instruments like earth-testing meggars, dynamometers etc.
are in this laboratory.
