The Orissa University of Agriculture & Technology (Estd. 1962) is a multi-faculty technical University with an earned reputation of being a leader in teaching, research & extension. OUAT, nurtures the students to face impediments, meet challenges and varying needs of IT career in today's world along with the objective to disseminate advanced knowledge by providing instructions and research facilities.
The Center for Post-Graduate studies forms the indispensable part of this University. This center of learning has been brought out with an offering of 3 career oriented Post – Graduate programmes, viz. Bioinformatics, Microbiology and MCA. Bioinformatics is the latest & hottest buzzword in the field of Science & Technology in which Biology, Computer Science and Information Technology merge into a single discipline. The ultimate goal of Bioinformatics is to enable the discovery of new biological insights as well as to create a global prospective from which unifying principles in biology can be discerned. With this in view, the Center for Post Graduate Studies has opened yet another professional course, M.Sc. Bioinformatics since 2002. The Master’s program in Bioinformatics is a vigorous 2 years course consisting of 4 semesters, course term covering an intensive training of 45 credit hours. It exposes the students to a spectrum of subjects and approaches.
The minimum qualification for admission to M.Sc. Bioinformatics is minimum 50% marks in B.Sc./ B.V.Sc. & A.H. / B.Tech (Ag. Engg.) / B.E / B.F.Sc / B.Pharma / MBBS with Mathematics and Biology both at +2 Sc. level or its equivalent.
The selection procedure is purely on mark basis. The weightage for different examinations are as follows:
HSC level- 20% ; +2Sc. level – 30% ; Graduation level- 50%
The fee structure includes a course fee of Rs. 40,000/- per year. In addition, the student has to pay the usual semester fees and other fees prescribed by the University.
The Intake capacity and Reservation of seats are as follows:
Intake capacity : 32
Reservation of seats : 32 ( Gen-24, SC-5, ST- 3).
NOTE: The seats reserved for SC and ST candidates falling vacant shall be filled up by the general candidates from the merit list.
Hostel Accommodation : Students admitted to the course will be given accommodation in the University hostels as per the availability of seats.
How to Apply: Application for admission is to be made in prescribed form obtainable in person from the SBI, OUAT Campus branch by depositing Rs. 415/- in the bank which includes bank commission of Rs. 15/-. Application form may also be obtained through post from office of the Dean, PGF-cum-DRI, OUAT , Bhubaneswar-751 003 by sending a Bank Draft of Rs. 450/- in favour of the “Comptroller, Orissa University of Agriculture & Technology, Bhubaneswar - 751003” payable at SBI, OUAT Campus Branch, Bhubaneswar- 751003. The University shall not be responsible for postal delay or loss in postal transit.

The Computer lab
State-of-the-art Computing
facilities are available in the Computer labs. These
are supported by the many powerful servers. Students have access to Laser
Printers, Scanners and CD Writers. Software resources include development tools,
packages, utilities, docs, and other recreational stuff too.
The
students of Bioinformatics have access to the Biotechnology laboratory in OUAT
which has proper environment, sophisticated equipments and machineries to enable
the students work in any modern technological lab furnished by industries
worldwide.
The Institute owns an excellent
automated central library, well stocked with texts and reference books along
with the magazines and journals of National and International repute. The
library possess a large volumes of books in a variety of subjects and subscribes
many Indian, foreign Journals and Periodicals of the Bio-world, Communication &
Information Sciences etc. Adjacent to the library is the reading room with ample
space and an extremely affordable book bank, giving the library a dynamic
stature. The Department also has its own library possessing a good variety of
text books all up to date and recent publications with a reading room.

The Institute has very efficiently organized various seminars, workshops & symposia for creating awareness of the on-goings in outside world. These are the best ever means of interacting between the academia and professionals.
